We are learning about the solar system

At the end of March 2018, the extracurricular activity “Astronomy as a separate branch of physics” was implemented in the primary school “Zivko Brajkovski” in the Municipality of Butel. The activity, in which 20 students with Macedonian and Albanian language of instruction took part, was aimed at providing the students with additional knowledge about the solar system and how it works.

During their first meeting, the students worked in groups on several tasks simultaneously:  preparing a presentation on the topic “Solar System”, making a model of the Solar System and measuring the planets’ volume.

However, their engagement will not stop with these activities. In the upcoming period, they will have several other meetings at which these primary school students will work diligently in order to make the final product – a large model of the Solar System. The model will be placed in the school and it will be a reminder of not only the hard work of these creative students, but also of their time spent together and the shared moments.

“The curiosity of the students about the astronomy as part of the physics is significant. This workshop is a result of that curiosity and its final product will be a 3D Solar System. The topic itself and the workshop itself sparked a great excitement among the students. They are eager to see the final product”, said one of the teachers who led the workshop.
