More than 800 students from different ethnic communities started joint student activities as part of the school clubs within the Strengthening Multiethnic Cooperation in Municipalities Project supported by the Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation. They spend time together and jointly learn in the spirit of ethnic integration.

Members of the school clubs are students who otherwise study in different languages of instruction, as a result of which they rarely have the opportunity to get in touch with each other. The school clubs are an excellent opportunity for the young people from different ethnic communities to cooperate and have fun, at the same time working on topics of their interest.

Numerous joint activities have been implemented as of the start of the school year. The students from the primary school “Zivko Brajkovski” from Butel participated in a workshop as part of the healthy food school section. They had a debate about healthy habits, and then they made posters with their favorite healthy food.

The students from the primary school “Brakja Miladinovci” from Struga also participated in an interesting activity as part of the school club for environment protection. They visited the National Park Galicica where they got basic information about the park and collected samples of plants that they will later use in order to make herbariums.

Similarly, the primary schools “Gjorgji Sugarev” and “Goce Delcev” from Bitola also made science-recreational visits. The students from “Gjorgji Sugarev” visited the National Park Pelister and the info center Pelisted as part of the work within the geography school club. During the visit, they learnt more about the historic WWI trail. They also got information about the rare types of plants, the manner of their propagation and the approaches used for forest protection. In the info center the students also attended a lecture for spatial orientation and forest fire protection.

In the language school club in the primary school “Goce Delcev”, the students study English. Thus, the students of this school club visited the University Library “Sv. Kliment Ohridski” in Bitola where they learnt more about the beginnings of the library, the library fund, the manner of book delivery, processing and terminology. The young people also visited the Museum of Albanian Alphabet. There, they discussed the orthographic (but also phonetic) differences in certain letters in the Macedonian, Albanian and English language.

These activities are only the beginning. In the course of the school year 2019/2020, the students from 27 primary schools will implement activities for raising the ecological awareness, healthy diet, sports, research, science, maths and many other interesting activities.

This activity is part of the Strengthening Multiethnic Cooperation in Municipalities Project, funded by the Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation. The main goal of the project is to increase interethnic integration in the society, promoting multiculturalism and actively involving the students of different ethnic backgrounds in various activities.
