On August 18 and 19, 2022, a two-day municipal networking event “From Local Strategy to Local Youth Action” took place in Ohrid, supported by the USAID Youth Ethnic Integration Project, in cooperation with the Youth Educational Forum.

Among those present were representatives from 30 municipalities, some of them with adopted strategies for interethnic integration in education and youth engagement and implemented youth actions, while the others carefully followed what their colleagues had to convey on this topic. They acquired information and knowledge about the importance of supporting schools and students in the implementation of youth initiatives.

During the event, advice and experiences from adopting the local strategy and implementing the action plan, which is part of the strategy, were shared, with the aim of supporting young people in realizing their initiatives. Through various activities, the attendees explored positive examples from the municipalities that have already gone through the process and were inspired to implement such activities in their municipalities as well.
Young people learn how to become active citizens in the country from the school desks. Through cooperation and implementation of initiatives, they strengthen and practice their democratic competencies. In this regard, in the period 2019-2022, 45 strategies for interethnic integration in education and youth engagement were adopted and more than 70 youth actions were implemented in partnership with the municipalities that adopted strategies in 2019 and 2020.
